The COVID-19 pandemic has forced schools to adjust their plans for prom for the second straight year. Both the senior prom grand march and the dance will be held in the school's auxiliary gym.īrookfield East High School is having a senior ball/prom for seniors on May 15, but its junior class is planning an informal dance event in early June, Thompson said. The senior prom's grand march will run from 5 to 5:45 p.m., followed by dinner from 6 to 7 p.m. Both the junior prom grand march and dance will be held in the school's main gym. The junior prom will start with the grand march running from 4 to 4:45 p.m., dinner from 5 to 6 p.m. The proms will operate on different schedules. Only those going to prom may attend, but it will be livestreamed. The grand march will be held in the school's gym. There will also be cleaning done as well as additional mitigation strategies consistent with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Elmbrook School District guidelines. Students may attend only one of the proms and will not be able to move between the two dances. Thompson also said other safety precautions will be in place, such as masking except when eating and drinking. The district will refund the student and their date should the date not attend. Students who are symptomatic, quarantined or isolated on the day of the dance cannot attend. If a student tests positive in the days after prom and they were infectious while present, they will be expected to identify their close contacts, and quarantine protocols will be implemented.

If students and/or chaperones have documentation of a confirmed/documented COVID case in the past 90 days or if they have received a full COVID vaccine before April 23, they will be exempt from needing to take the test. On the morning of May 8, the test will be administered by a private vendor at the school.
If the antigen or subsequent PCR test is negative, the student will be allowed to participate.īrookfield Central will hold two proms - a junior and senior prom - on May 8 at the school. If positive, the student would be given a PCR test to confirm the antigen test's reading. Brookfield Central and Brookfield East high school students will get to attend prom this year, with a caveat: turning in a negative COVID test.Īccording to Elmbrook School District chief strategy officer Chris Thompson, all participants will be given a rapid COVID antigen test on the morning of the dance.
